Help Restore
Naugatuck High School's
Davis Auditorium

WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO DO:

In 2003, school, government and community members came together to develop a plan to restore the Davis Auditorium to its former greatness. Built in 1959, Naugatuck High School’s Davis Auditorium has the largest seating capacity for a public school in the region. Named for two generations of Davis’, this auditorium has the finest acoustics in New Haven County and hosts:

  • Community and regional arts activities and festivals
  • Civic Events
  • An extraordinary range of student talent

Having seen no major renovations or updates since being built, the condition of Davis Auditorium has deteriorated considerably. In 2003/2004 school year alone, 100 seats have become unusable.

Davis Auditorium Restoration Committee (DARC) was formed to raise the funds necessary to rebuild the auditorium as a premier facility. A study conducted by the architectural firm Ames and Whitaker determined that approximately $1.5 million is needed to complete the renovations. DARC is planning to raise the $1.5 million through:

  • State and local bonding
  • Coporate Donations
  • YOU

A PLAN FOR SUCCESS:

DARC realizes this is an ambitious undertaking. Our plan is to divide the renovations into three phases:

 PHASE 1                        $450,000
Auditorium and toilet facility renovations

 PHASE 2                        $600,000
Sound, stage and lighting facilities

 PHASE 3                        $400,000
Lobby, access, hallway improvements

ABOUT THE PROGRAM:

To kick-off this effort, DARC has established the BUY A SEAT program. Naugatuck High School students, parents, alumni, and friends have the opportunity to leave your own legacy or honor the name or memory of a loved one by purchasing a seat in the auditorium. A commemorative seat plaque will be mounted on a seat. Each plaque will be engraved with 2 lines and up 24 characters.

Donations are tax deductible!

An auditorium seat is the perfect way to commemorate your years at Naugatuck High School, or to recognize a graduate, a teacher, or someone who made a difference in your life. Don’t miss the chance.   Davis auditorium was named for Jesse F. and William C. Davis. Both Jesse and Bill taught for 28 years each as music directors for Naugatuck High School. Under their direction, Naugatuck High School’s music program became one of the most admired in the state. The tradition of musical excellence continues today!
